15 great games you could play on a Mac Performa 575 in 1994

I’m not an Apple guy today, and I have all non-Apple stuff now. But as a kid, the first family computer we had was the Mac Performa 575 (around 1994, when it was released). And I dug it. At t…

@jake4480 hell yeah this was super interesting
@HailsandAles haha oh man thanks for reading - it's been bumping around in my head for a while.. Having no consoles as a kid, these were really my first video games 😂
@jake4480 nice I never had a Mac or played many PC games. Aside from lemmings I remember. My first console was a NES. This was early to mid 90s, not sure where my dad got it from. After that I think it was a Sega Genesis then on to ps1
@HailsandAles I'm still surprised my dad jumped for this Mac. I was 14. Those are such good consoles to have! Haha. I had a Genesis years ago but put it up in a raffle.. Now I have this RetroTrio that plays NES, SNES and Genesis carts, which is cool, for testing if I find em. And PS1 games I love, I have one of those minis I hacked and it has like 80 games on it now. Making up for lost time 🤣
@jake4480 nice! I have one of those minis but it’s not hacked. Been talking about digging it out anyway so might do a post myself about that. I’d like to do some non music posts at some point and games seem good for that. Might do an albums that made me post but with games
@HailsandAles I'd love to read that! And they're super easy to hack, even easier than the Nintendo ones I did.

I'm gonna go look at this list, but right here and now I'm sayin' if it doesn't have Spectre Supreme (and/or Spectre VR) and Te†ris Max (specifically) on, I'm going to be very put out.

…alright, it's got Spectre (remember shooting the spinner-thing at the gateway to make it into a portal?). But no Tetris Max, nor Tetris Plus. So I'm not put ou†, just sort of vaguely halfway ill at ease.

Oh well. The theme music from Tetris Max is available; that'll help:

@jake4480 Well done, brother! I learned a lot about these games, some of which I knew (games)! ;>)
@brian oh nice - thanks for reading! Haha. This was a long time coming. Didn't even have a number in mind and just wrote about my favorites, wow, 15. My first real video games at home, and probably started my love for weird simple games 😂

Ahh, we must have had the same shareware CDs, haha! I also remember Blood Bath, Glider, Maelstrom, Sim Ant, and Marathon. I remember that we had the demos for those games, possibly on the same CD. And then we had the full version of Wolfenstein 3D on a bunch of floppy disks.

@jake4480 @nivrig @WoodooProd @chongliss @eabolden @qgi @1Bit

@tuckerm that is SO cool you had the Wolf disks! Yeah pretty sure there was at least one demo CD involved..
@jake4480 Great list. I’ve played them all, except Moria and Munchers. Probably on my dad’s Quadra 700, it seems to fit the period.
@oscherler haha oh heck yeah! And you recognize almost all of em! That's so cool. I was trying to remember which were on a demo disc and which were preloaded.. Marathon was probably the disc, etc

@jake4480 Did you see that they’re re-releasing Return to Dark Castle?

OH MY GOD!!! I’ve spent three weeks this year unsuccessfully trying to run Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 in various emulators and play the original Return to Dark Castle on it. This is amazing. @[email protected] @[email protected] https://bitbang.social/@RonsCompVids/115578083200737492

@oscherler wow I didn't - this looks wild!

Other favourites of mine and my dad’s:

– Flashback
– F/A-18 Hornet
– Leprechaun
– Armour Alley
– Solarian
– Carmageddon
– Duke Nukem 3D
– Loony Labyrinth and the other LittleWing pinballs
– Lunatic Fringe (a game in an After Dark screen saver)
– Many LucasArts games: Loom, Monkey Island, Fate of Atlantis
– Myst series

I’m building my list with help from http://macintoshgarden.org/games/, but I’m only at the letter M.

@oscherler Duke! Heck yeah. Played more of that later on DOS.. I did have Myst and it seemed interesting, but I could never get anywhere in it. Puzzles aren't my thing 😂
@jake4480 I just got around to read your post about your 15 favorite Mac Performa games and enjoyed it a lot.
I never had a Mac myself, I'm a bit younger and we got our first PC waaaaaaay later ('97 I think), so I hadn't heard about most of them. They all look like great fun. 😁
@irgndsondepp hahaa oh awesome, thanks for reading! That was an interesting trip down memory lane, as usual, I learned a lot when researching. I'm still surprised I liked Apple stuff.. I guess I had one iMac in the 2000s too. But that was it haha. Those 90s games though.. Wow.
