"Since the Trump regime defunded U.S.A.I.D., at least 600,000 people who should still be alive are dead. 400,000 of those who’ve died are children."

The Cruelty Is the Policy

The destruction of USAID, the loss of America’s soft power, and genocide

The Good in Us by Mary L. Trump
@wdlindsy So deeply sad, 600000 🕯️who could still be alive and are dead, due to the arbitrary shutdown of USAID by the current U.S. government.

@wdlindsy The only picture I want to see of those greed-stricken degenerates is after they've been hit with an anti-tank rifle. To be honest, I'd watch the ultra-slomo feature-length film of the impact, too. Just can't with these subhumans anymore

@wdlindsy
Not cruelty... it's murder.
Plain. Simple. Murder.

@wdlindsy While the defunding of USAID doubtlessly caused many deaths, it should be noted that the 600k figure is based on some very generous projections.

The projection assumes everyone who lost the aid didn’t get aid elsewhere and that huge chunks of them were suffering from severe malnutrition, among other things. It’s not backed up with much physical data like a good projection/estimate is.

@river I think I'll continue to persist in concludlng that stifling USAID was a lethal and cruel decision that has had devastating effects on some of the most vulnerable people on the planet.

That's where my eyes go and will remain fixed.

@wdlindsy That’s true! My point is just to maintain scientific integrity and not put too much weight behind data that isn’t well-evidenced.
@river I'm all in favor of scientific integrity. I don't see strong reasons to doubt the integrity of the research presented here.
@wdlindsy The 600k figure, from everything I’ve seen, is pulled from this site and the corresponding projections: https://www.impactcounter.com/dashboard. If you look at the methodology for Child Health, for instance, it assumes that USAID’s $160 mill nutrition budget would have been used exclusively on children facing severe malnutrition and that those children would not receive other nutrition to replace USAID sources. So already, 168k of the 600k deaths are from some pretty big assumptions.

@wdlindsy The best projections are based first on measurements and then try to account for what might’ve slipped through the cracks. The 600k number doesn’t seem grounded in actual death counts, so I have a lot of trouble trusting it. I wouldn’t be shocked if the actual number was far, far smaller.

(I’m not sure about other data referenced in the article you posted, I haven’t looked into those)

Just one of thousands of *really* relevant (to know) facts that the media "fail" to report or even to mention.
