When I switched to using a #ridgewallet (which I quite like and recommend), I ditched all of my loyalty and "lesser" ID cards in liu of #Stocard - a mobile app with digital copies. But now Stocard is #klarna (and we had no choice in the matter).

So I'm trying to open one of my cards on my phone; open Klarna.
All you see is this:

1/

> To get the latest features and best experience, please update your app to the latest version.

I don't want the latest features I want the old features which is to view the cards in my fucking wallet please.

There is no option to skip or bypass this. So click `Update`, which via #GooglePlay, says (you guessed it):

2/

> "This app isn't compatible with your device anymore. Contact the developers for more info."

The `Open` button just brings you back to the "New version available" screen.
So now I have no way of reading any of the cards in my #stocard ne #klarna #wallet.

Look, #enshittification is one thing. But this was working ... ON THIS DEVICE.. as recently as last week. How do I know? Because I used the same fucking card Im trying to use now at exactly the same fucking place!

This wouldn't be so horrible if it weren't MY BENEFITS CARD, and I'm trying to use it to obtain a VERY EXPENSIVE PERSCRIPTION for a medication I take.

So, fine. Open #vivaldi browser on my phone which works and go to #Klarna's website and after TWO 2FA's I finally pull up my benefits card.

But _come on._

I'm a developer, I get it. You can't maintain #backwards #compatibility for all supported devices forever. But the #APIs for the old feature set should still work, just keep a few server nodes kicking around to service requests from older versions of your app, and if need be write a shunt layer to interface between those nodes and your database/backend where all the data is kept (if you have to make a breaking schema change).

5/

.. and when an old mobile OS version exits your support window, just sunset the app with a final update that reminds the user - unobtrusively - that all the old stuff will happilly keep working (for as long as your servers are up) its just that you won't get any new features and for that go get a new version (and imply if that means a new device, that's your problem.)

Now, I have to go write a sternly worded crunchwrap for these #Klarna folks.. wish me luck because clicking on #customersupport on their #website just takes me to an "Ask Me Anything" #chatbot prompt and `NOTHING ELSE`. No FAQ, no knowledge base to search, NOTHING.

@tezoatlipoca

feedback@klarna.com ?

(unless google is lying to me)

@tezoatlipoca At the very least, "your version of the app can't be updated on your device; the version you have will cease to work on x date in six months".
@tezoatlipoca Maybe they have a deal with smart phone companies---make apps unusable so we have to upgrade equipment
@tezoatlipoca Before I made the decision to permanently ditch any and all loyalty programs (a much better decision for me), I just took photos on my phone of all my loyalty cards. Often there's a barcode on the back, so I'd photo that side and put big text on the image for which card It was, move them all into one folder.

@tezoatlipoca yep. I hate it.

I dropped Stocard the minute they were acquired
