Montreal's electric buses use more energy in winter but are still more cost-effective than diesel

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM), the city's urban transit authority, plans to make its network completely electric by 2040 by adding 140 electric buses to its fleet annually to meet this target. It's an ambitious goal, made more challenging by the extreme swings in the city's weather every year.

@UP8 However, the biggest issue, which Toronto has measured, is that they can drive a lot less KM per day because of the need to recharge them. Even the study acknowledges that the bus are doing a lot less KM per day.

So to replace 1 hybrid bus, you need more than 1 electric bus (+1 more driver!), so it's more expensive, even if $/km is lower.

This is the future for sure, but we are going too fast toward replacing hybrid bus and will starve our transit system of precious dollar
