😱 The high number of #CCS lobbyists at #COP30 highlights the large amounts of energy and power the fossil fuel industry is investing to secure its future by selling the idea that governments and companies can 'clean' their use of coal, oil, and gas by capturing and 'managing' emissions.
The number of Carbon Capture and Storage #CCS lobbyists infiltrating #COP30 🐍 is higher than the combined national delegations from the G7 countries (481).
What is the big deal? #CarbonCapture could worsen the #ClimateCrisis.
Polluters push carbon capture and storage as a means of trapping their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, transporting them, and burying them underground.
The technology is:
👿 dangerous,
👿 expensive, and
👿 proven to fail.
👀 While the fossil fuel industry sells carbon capture as a means of “cleaning up” their carbon emissions, more than 70% of captured carbon is used to extract more oil.

Adding fuel to the fire: #AI’s rising power needs are being exploited to extend fossil fuels, with #CCS.
Investing in proven-to-fail #CCS wastes time, money, and locks in fossil fuels.

The UNFCCC & States must address this obvious conflict of interest.
