Subtle changing leaves of autumn in Japan appear before the blazing red of decorative maple trees and yellow ginkgo. The castle ruins park on our street (高槻城跡公園) is notable historically for its martyred Christian Daimyō Takayama Ukon (高山右近), recently beatified by the Vatican (fourth picture). I discovered that the location of our house used to be a samurai house inside the outer moat of the castle. The shrine across from the park in the first picture is most revered in the city. Our short street also has junior and senior high schools, plus a center for performing arts, so it gets quite busy. Here in the middle of the Kansai region, people appreciate an oasis with trees.
