Yesterday we went to Buchan’s Stationery and ended up buying some pens and ink:
- Lamy Safari extra fine (metal body)
- Preppy 0.2 red
- Pilot G Tech purple
- Lamy purple ink cartridge

Aluminum body Lamys are called Lamy AL Star

@backtoanalog thank you for changing my life! I guess I forgot to read the name on the receipt :)

@falcon

Safari comes in metal body now? I’ve been out of the loop for a few years now, so I wasn’t aware. I have a charcoal colored Safari that’s my dedicated Noodler’s Ink Baystate Blue pen. You can’t mix that ink with anything else, so you basically have to sacrifice a pen to it. I’ve regretted nothing!

Nice haul!

@lunchb0x_b yeah, they do have aluminum! They do look pretty good, and I loved the feeling of writing with them.

(Technically it's not Safari, they call it AL Star, but it's the same pen afaik)

I was not familiar with that ink, but just checked, and it does look really nice!

Next time I'm at that store, I'll pick up a converter and an ink or two.

@falcon

I wondered if you meant the Al-Star.

When I say you can’t mix the BSB ink with any other ink, they really mean that. Your only options when using it are to dedicate a pen to it, or you have to clean the pen spotlessly well if you want to switch. Apparently it just does not play well with anything except the Baystate line, which I think are only three colors, last I checked anyway. I’ve only used the blue, and trust me, pictures DO NOT do it justice! It’s a beautiful blue!

Yeah, my bad. Since the store had them together, and the price was only indicating "plastic" and "metallic", I didn't realize the was a different name for the aluminum one.

Interesting about not being mixable.

I'll also keep in mind to get a waterproof ink when I get a converter for my Lamy.

@falcon

I’m actually a big fan of Noodler’s Ink. I think I have a dozen or so different inks and most of them are Noodler’s. I prefer waterproof inks, because I lost most of an entire notebook worth of writing once, due to a spill on it. Only my Noodler’s pages survived.
