Go back to 1960, Eddie Cochran was touring the UK with Gene Vincent, Eddie died when a taxi he and Gene were in had a road traffic accident. The PC who attended the scene impounded items including Gretch 6120 guitar – that police constable was Dave Harman, who began to learn to play guitar on that impounded guitar in the station.
Meanwhile in America, a young Gloria Jones was in a gospel group, a few years later would have a hit and work with major acts touring at the time and write/co-write some popular songs with success
Dave Harman (as Dave Dee) would go on to found the 60’s pop group Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich, and at one of their gigs, a young fan named Marc Feld would help him with his guitar to his car
Gloria Jones’ Tainted Love began to be played heavily in the UK at Northern Soul clubs where she was known as the “Queen of Northern Soul” – she came here to the UK in the 60s for a part in the musical Hair
Marc Feld would go on to found a pop group Tyrannosaurus Rex, by then he was known by the stage name Marc Bolan, the band would shorten the name to T Rex
Gloria, now in the UK, met Marc Bolan and soon after became a backing singer for Marc’s pop group T Rex, and they became an item, Marc Bolan and Gloria Jones had a son
Gloria unfortunately was driving their Mini when they crashed into a tree in Barnes, which resulted in injuries for Gloria and Marc’s accidental death
