The entire species is the victim of its own arbitrary economic laws and conventions.

Corporations are legally obliged to make a profit for their shareholders which drives massive wealth inequalities, which in turn funds the lobbies that make social and environmental reform impossible.

Even the most progressive political and environmental reforms offer little more than mitigation against the worst excesses of a system that doesn't have to exist at all.
