#SVP2025 something new happened today. People know me through my papers. Either my papers are getting traction or I’ve been in the field long enough. Either way, a good way to start off a conference!
@drmambobob Wish I was there! It's so close to home but my health makes things difficult. I was hoping to see some more #SVP2025 posts on Mastodon to get a feel for what's going on, but such posts are very thin on the ground. My greetings to the old gang if anyone else I know is there!
@AdamStuartSmith I’m sorry to hear about your health. I don’t know if it’s because it’s an American conference but they start early - at 8am! And not a lot of coffee breaks!
@drmambobob I remember having one of the unreasonably early presentation slots one year. At least I could fully relax for the rest of that day.
@AdamStuartSmith @drmambobob At Mesozoic Terrestrial Ecosystems in 2006, I had the very last slot on the very last day. It was such a weird atmosphere. In an already thinned-out audience, people were tangibly worrying about train and plane times while I was surveying dinosaur diversity!
@mike @drmambobob I had the very last slot on the last day at SVPCA in Dublin (2008). Felt similar, didn’t like it.
@mike @drmambobob Are you also at SVP Mike?
@AdamStuartSmith @drmambobob Nope. I did DinoCon this year, and only have enough vacation allowance for one conference a year. In any case, I much prefer SVPCA over SVP, based on my admittedly limited experience (Austin 2007, Bristol 2009).
