When Silence Feels Too Loud: An Outlet For Emotions
What we need is not a distraction from our emotions but an outlet for them.
We do not need more distractions.
We move through life, through the ups and downs. Life can be a struggle in its own. We push through the day, carrying more than we realise. There is so much stress, so many little worries that pile up quietly in the background. Some days we are not even sure if it is worth it, but we keep going anyway.
There are personal stressors. Friends. Family. Community. And then there are the bigger things. The world itself. The constant noise, the bad news, the sense that everything is falling apart.
With time, all of this builds up inside us. It gathers quietly until we feel it pressing from the inside. We get angry, we get frustrated. Sometimes we cry for no clear reason. Sometimes we lash out at others and do not know why.
And so, almost without thinking, we reach for distraction. We open social media and scroll. We watch another episode. We fill every quiet moment with noise. We are constantly trying to escape our own minds and the stillness around us.
But that never truly helps. It only pushes the feelings deeper.
What we need is not a distraction from our emotions but an outlet for them.
Something creative. Something that lets what is inside find its way out. It does not have to mean painting or writing poetry. You can go into the garage and work on your motorcycle. That is a process. That is an outlet.
In a strange way, you see yourself in the machine. The problems you are facing become the engine you are taking apart. You study it, clean it, replace what no longer works, and put it back together again. And when it finally runs smoothly, you feel something loosen inside you too.
Creativity is the simplest form of release. Write. Paint. Play an instrument. Take photographs. Knit. Make jewellery just for the joy of it. These things are not just hobbies. They are ways to let emotion move through you after long days and heavy weeks.
Let it out. It does not have to be for anyone else. It can be only for you. It is about release, not results. There is no goal to reach. There is no need to perfect it. You are simply doing it.
This outlet is vital. It grounds us. It brings the charge down. It reminds us that peace is not found in escape, but in expression.
Because what we need is not to turn away from what we feel. What we need is a way to let it flow.
