"Activating the private sector" indeed.

The private sector has the resources to stop themselves from polluting, but they haven't exactly had much incentive, now have they? Relying on them to cap themselves is like trying to get a lion to stop after the first filet mignon.

@theogrin Ontario has had an industrial carbon cap and trade program since 2022: https://www.ontario.ca/page/emissions-performance-standards-program. It's just super weak, especially now that the Federal government has removed the Fuel Charge.
Emissions Performance Standards program

What you need to know about Ontario’s Emissions Performance Standards (EPS) program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from large polluters, including who must register, how to register and what to do after you register.

Exactly the kind of incentives to which I refer. Insignificant at best and meaningless at worst, removing these last few financial reasons NOT to pollute will ensure that the private sector, which has never once been on the side of the human race, will continue to try and kill Captain Planet.
