The more I think about it the NFB is doing a disservice to all blind people. They do not stand for the values they claim. Do they take a stand when Vispero Restricts a critical feature of Jaws 2026? No Why because they are kissing their back side! If this were apple, Google, or Microsoft that did it they would be all over them. If you are going to hold one company to a high standard you fucking hold all companies to that standard! The NFB is not for all users! They don't care about all blind people! If other high profile blind people have came out against Vispero why the Fuck hasn't the NFB? Is it because someone used to work for Vispero and doesn't want to be critical should they ever want a pathway back to the company? Is it because years ago the NFB advised states to vote for Freedom doing a screen reader and not having Microsoft do a built in screen reader? Is it because Vispero is in the NFB's back pocket? We'll never know! What I do know is the NFB is not for all! You get Radio silence from the NFB they should be standing up to Vispero but they won't.#NFB #Jaws2026 #corporategreed #homeannualusersmatter
@Dennislong82 And now you see why I don't support that crappy organization, which my former late boyfriend Ben, use to rub in my face back in the day.
@celrock Fuck the NFB! They proved they aren't for all blind people. They should've come out against what Vispero did on day one did they? No. I gave them over a week. Radio silence.
@Dennislong82 I fully agree, which is why they don't stand up to ebay and others.
@Dennislong82 yes I agree. The nfb mostly cares about fundraising and scholarships so it seems.
@joshknnd1982 I'll never join the NFB
@Dennislong82 that's because it's their product!
there is no rules/law that says they can't restrict whatever they want.
While I disagree with most things nfb, I wouldn't get involved in this either.
Because there is nothing to be involved in.
Also, depending on how this feature works, it can be very expensive to run.
@Dennislong82 NFB has always been more business oriented. Vispero seems to be headed that way, too. How about I slide all that money I'm paying to Vispero to NVDA...along with every other home user. See how they like that action. I wasn't the one who came up with that move, but I like it.
@the_spc Nope I'll be switching to Mac. Apple cares about accessibility.
@Dennislong82 I don't have that luxury, unfortunately. Even with saving the money up that I'd he paying Visppero, it would take me almost a year to save up for a decent mac.
Apple's Cheap MacBook: What to Expect in 2026

Apple is going to release a low-cost MacBook in 2026, with the device set to be more affordable than the $999 MacBook Air. With the affordable...

MacRumors

@Dennislong82 Okay, that would work in a piinchh, buuut I'm a pretty regular gamer, and DDiablo titles...are pretty intensive, so there's that.

I'm glad they're doiing that, though. Let'ss hope they don't discontinue the iPad in favor of that, though.

@the_spc I don't think they will.
@Dennislong82 That's good. I've known them to do weird shit like that, though.
@Dennislong82 @the_spc Also, good luck doing anything web-related with VoiceOver on Mac. It's awful.
@Dennislong82 While I may have mixed feelings about some of Vispero's recent decisions, you make this sound like a civil rights issue.
Should the NFB force Vispero to, let's say, provide home license holders with free access to remote desktop services, rather than making them pay over $200.00 for this option?
Should the NFB force Microsoft to stop making M365 license holders pay more for the CoPilot features which are built into Office products? To say that the NFB doesn't care about its members and is doing us a disservice because you believe they're not taking a position on this issue is a bit irrational. Your assertion about why a former Vispero employee might not be reacting in the way that you think that this person should react is quite a bold statement and, quite frankly, is uncalled for. You also don't know what level of advocacy and dialog blindness organizations might be doing behind the scenes that they aren't yet in a position to talk about. Rather than yelling, screaming and swearing, you'd be better to take that energy and engage in a bit of positive advocacy yourself. Why not reach out to Vispero with a politely written email explaining your position. Why not start a petition and use social media to alert the community about it. These are positive ways you could consider channeling your frustration to affect positive change.
@DavidGoldfield first of all I've reached out to Vispero and gotten no response. I have a problem with the NFB BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THEY FIGHT FOR ALL BLIND PEOPLE!!! THEY DO WHEN IT IS Convenient for them to do so. When they have to take a stand against a blindness company they won't do so.
@Dennislong82 @DavidGoldfield As it happens there's a lot in what you both say that I agree with. I expect nothing from NfB in terms of advocacy, but many people benefit from the support, encouragement and structure they provide. Vispero manifests their care for their consumers in their policy toward remote Incident Manager and in the current issue, among others. Each of us can vote with our pocketbooks and i don't think we can take many other useful actions.
@DeanEquity @DavidGoldfield If the NFB cared they could put out a statement. They chose not to. I've outlined why in my original post. and I think it is dead on. It must be very hard to not burn that bridge should you ever want back in to Vispero and claim to be fighting for all blind people at the same time.
@Dennislong82 @DeanEquity Dennis, You're making an assertion about a specific person not wanting to burn a bridge but this is just a conjecture. You do not know the motivations behind that person's actions. You do not know what that individual might be doing behind the scenes. Making such statements will not help your cause. Please stick to the facts and the data that you do have, as in This is what is happening. I do not like this particular decision and this is why.
@DavidGoldfield @DeanEquity The facts are in black and white. it isn't hard to connect the dots. Name one person in any part of leadership of NFB that said anything about this? Did the president? Did Technology? Did the Vice president? Did the NFB put out so much as a statement? If so where is it? They didnn't so quit covering up for them!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Dennislong82 @DeanEquity You have no evidence to support your statement about this individual's motives any more than you do about my own, unless I make my motives and intentions clear. Assumptions are not facts. I'm done with this thread.
@Dennislong82 @DavidGoldfield @DeanEquity yes, the nfb has said nothing about all these bad changes at vispero, like no AI page explorer for home annual users, no more public betas.
@Dennislong82 @RaineyDay This podcast did just come out today to possibly speak more about the Vespero issue with Jaws. @AccessOn episode 51 covers these issues.
@ablade @RaineyDay @AccessOn I did listen to it. I do agree with the NFB's letter. They need to promote it more. Not every one does podcasts. If Vispero does anything it isn't because they care. They care about loosing the NFB. They care that the NFB will go to states and tell them that Vispero can't be trusted and doesn't aline with their Values. So make no mistake about it if Vispero changes it is because of the millions of dollars they could lose and for no other reason!
