Now as Roger Linn has praised the new #MPC #music #instrument, it's fine to get one I guess? The most recent model with speakers and the pads that can be divided to different sections looks like a fun machine to take to the #stage. 16 pads aside, it rocks the weirdest #user #interface. That aside, it seems that the new MPCs does multi channel #recording into the connected computer/DAW, similar to #Elektron #Overbridge.
Under the hood modern #MPC is essentially a #linux #music #computer with a specific workflow. The same can be said about the new #Elektron #Tonverk but while Tonverk is merely a #sampler, MPC is also hosting #virtual #instruments and #effects #plugins, all visualised on the touch screen full colours. Tonverk does look notably cheaper but eventually, after adding the cost of external #instruments (all included into the MPC package), it is not.
Not sure where it leaves me. I'm not a big fan of #MPC workflow but I have this growing feeling #Elektron did not get the memo. Since the release of #Syntakt (and then mk2 #Digitakt and mk2 #Digitone) it seems Elektron has very little insight to how their instruments are used and who are the ppl using these. For me personally these instruments are failures. After that Tonverk was this one opportunity to make things right and combine the previous efforts into one #groovebox style #instrument.
