The predictions scientists made decades are ago are coming true one by one and yet we are still getting told by the scientifically illiterate we need to keep burning oil for their yacht money.

We have a decision to make. Do we save humanity or do we save billionaires?

Not only do we need to end fossil fuel subsidies, we need to tax them out of business.

Homes are collapsing in North Carolina. It could spell trouble for other coastal areas, too

When Stacy Morgan and her husband, Brandon Dodick, bought their beach house in Buxton, North Carolina, in May, they imagined one day spending their retirement there.

@ScientistRebellion For some reason, these two cartoons spring to mind...
@kim_harding @ScientistRebellion Laughing so hard I’m crying for biodiversity.
@ScientistRebellion Yes, the same is happening at the south beach of Ischia, a famous island of Italy. Prior nice hotels and bars at the beach are modern ruins and bankrupt.
@ScientistRebellion The next century is going to be an epic struggle. As always, how bad depends on us.
Not good.
@ScientistRebellion I suppose it is unkind, but I truly do not have any sympathy for people who are buying beach front property at this point. The warning signs have been there for decades now.
@ScientistRebellion Specifically, scientists employed (before being sacked) by Exxon Mobil
@ScientistRebellion this (and consistently electing climate denialists into county and state office to promote its now multi-billion $ tourism industry) is part of the reason why I have not particularly liked traveling to the Outer Banks of easternmost NC, even retrospectively as a child decades ago.
@ScientistRebellion and also please try not to ask Manteo, NC (county seat of Dare Co.) residents about what happened at an Esso gas station downtown on September 11, 1939 🙀

@ScientistRebellion oh no, someone #rich lost their beachfront house due to totally foreseeable circumstances... think of the profits!

@ScientistRebellion Agreed. Sadly, geopolitics complicates this plan.. The US has huge shale/fracking capacity, putting us 3rd in reserves behind the Saudi Peninsula and Russia. We lead in LNG exports.

Russia invades it neighbors regularly over the centuries and has eyes on the Baltic (NATO) states. It has taken years for Europe to ween itself from Russian LNG.

The Saudis/OPEC threatened US dominance in the 1970’s. They also practice low-key slavery. Qatar, Kuwaití, UAE etc are little better. They are monarchies opposed to basic human rights.

We absolutely need to decarbonize. It’s existential. But Putin and tactical nuclear exchange is an immediate, existential threat.

And I can’t support monarchies that behead LGBTQ folks, subjugate women, etc.

Europe is leading on this difficult question. We ought to examine their approach
