"There’s no way to sugarcoat or deep fry it. Donald Trump was a big orange drag on races around the nation. But of course, he’s neither ready to accept responsibility nor capable of doing so.

Trust me, Trump was on the ballot. If you don’t believe me, ask Fox."

What a Night!

I’m hopping on a plane to SoCal for the next few days to attend Human Rights Campaign events, but I wanted to share with you some of my joy, delight and thoughts on yesterday’s resounding election results.

In an editorial entitled "Trump Really Was on the Ballot," the right-leaning Republican Wall Street Journal says,

"President Trump on Wednesday blamed Tuesday’s Republican election defeats on the government shutdown and the fact that he wasn’t on the ballot. If he really believes this, the GOP is heading for bigger problems in 2026."

"The biggest impact of last night’s result may be to collapse D.C.’s collective denial about the sheer scale of Donald Trump’s unpopularity. A mix of spectacle, aggression and speed have created this on-going pageant of Trump’s power. ... These results tell a clear story: an electorate eager to send a message to Donald Trump and clip the wings of his untrammeled power."

The Brutal Choice Facing Republicans

Do Washington Republicans finally stand up to Trump to stave off voter anger or do they keep turning a blind eye to the Constitution?

Salty Politics with Julie Roginsky

"If you were watching any of the voter-on-the-street interviews Tuesday, you might have been surprised to hear how many Americans are deeply disturbed, furious even, about Donald Trump’s bulldozing of the White House to make way for a garish $330M donor-paid ballroom."

"The results showed that Democrats don’t have to choose between attacking Trump and highlighting the economy. In fact, they are often inseparable.

There’s a bizarre tendency in our political discourse to treat criticism of Trump—including his lawlessness and consolidation of authoritarian power—as somehow evading the 'real' issues that working-class voters actually care about. Tuesday’s results sorely test this false dichotomy."

Trump Humiliation Worsens as Fresh Info Reveals Scale of GOP Losses

The results showed that Democrats don’t have to choose between attacking Trump and highlighting the economy. In fact, they are often inseparable.

The New Republic

"In the end, the bizarre idea that a choice must be made between Trump and the economy reflects something deeper: a broad reluctance to accept that Trump is really, really unpopular."

"DONALD TRUMP COST HIS PARTY A LOT OF VOTES in Tuesday’s elections. He and his supporters are peddling excuses for the big Republican defeat—pleading that the losses were in blue states, faulting the poor quality of the candidates, or arguing that the GOP would have performed better if Trump were on the ballot this year.1 But the president and his policies were largely to blame."

Exit polls show Tuesday’s election was a referendum on the president and his policies.

"Trump is a weakened and diminished figure, his mandate has been revoked by the American people -

Simply, Trump has been a terrible, terrible leader and people are pissed. He has done clear material harm to the American people and our country, on purpose, by design. He has become wildly unpopular, his agenda (which Republicans have to run on next year) even more so."

"This year’s races, which saw the collapse of the supposed 2024 Trump coalition in multiple states, probably ought to prompt at least some reflection on the national mood among GOP pols. Ten or more years ago, it probably would have done just that. But the morning after Tuesday’s elections, Republicans like [Mike] Johnson were doing everything but reflecting on the national mood."

Why doesn't it play the video too?

@kevinrns I don't know why it's not playing for you. It does play for me, though the video plays better if I click the link to Rosenberg's Hopium site. You may try that if you haven't done so?

No, its a tech question. Sorry I should have made it more clear.

I'm a fan of fedi's interoperability and look forward to smoother integration. Noting were it does not can only help, if I'm clear about my observations.

In other matters, your posts are not just fire, but useful fire, organised and clear. Grateful for your work.

@kevinrns Thank you for the encouraging remarks. They're much appreciated. I'm sorry I didn't understand your question. To say I'm not very tech-savvy would be an understatement!

Trump isn't the only unpopular one. Many of his billionaires are reviled as well.

Elon Musk is facing a Tesla Takedown that saw 90% drop in sales in the EU. People are buying better, safer, cheaper EV's elsewhere.

The six dynasties funding Project 2025 (Bradley, Koch, Coors, Scaife Mellon, Seid and Uihlein) are seeing wind & solar take away their captive consumer markets.

But the article posted to Mastodon has no way to.link back, because there is a paucity in good "join New Republic on Mastodon" code.

We, mastodon users coders thinkers, have to solve this coding problem.

@wdlindsy Trump’s ego and penchant for gilded, gaudy decor will be his Achillies heel. That is behavior that identifies him as someone who does not understand the common worker who is struggling to maintain a home. Government workers like air traffic controllers who are working without pay during an upcoming holiday season while the President pads his nest with more gilt and glitz building a ballroom instead of more schools.
