Went to Bodie California today. A real life ghost town on this Old Hallow's Eve.

The town boomed in the 1880's with gold and silver, only to fall in hard times as the mines went bust. A fire took out most of the town in 1932. Everyone packed up and left, not even bothering to move furniture.

The town was preserved in arrested decay in the 1960's.

@sewblue Here is a shot from my visit to Bodie 20 years ago. We had a great time in the US. We drove there via Tioga Pass and I can remember reading how difficult it is to drive. But compared to alpine passes, it wasn't.

@Der_Michi Tioga Pass was built in the 1960's. Even by California standards, it is modern. Yosemite Park attracts people from all over the world, including those who have never driven on a mountain let alone a pass so the park tends to be heavy handed in how they communicate. You should see how they handle snow!

That said, I've gone over multiple Sierra passes and Tioga isn't the worst. The back side of the Sierras have a 25% grade, vs the front side's 2%. Crazy lopsided.
