75 years ago today, European nations signed this Convention, so the Holocaust could not be repeated. Beware those who want this to end.

@brucelawson

.. and beware those in the Commission , Council of Ministers and elsewhere who ignore it when there's a buck to be made selling arms.

@brucelawson

Unless you aren't a god following, single mom.

Lol.

@brucelawson not sure what's worse, not signing something like this but do something for the Palestinians or like most of Europe sign it but do nothing at all, like not even banning from European sporting competitions as a small gesture... This kind of inaction & apathy is what ultimately lead to rise of fascism etc.
@brucelawson
Unfortunately these "Western values" do not apply to non-whites.
@brucelawson @sjar The red lines has been crossed so many times, including, and in particular, by those these words were designed to protect.

@thierry_van_kerm

The biggest irony of them all, IMO. But those who are abused often turn into abusers, after learning the wrong lesson.

What has the European Convention on Human Rights ever done for us?

@brucelawson AFAIK the US does not have something like that and does not recognise the international court in the Hague?
@LongJohn I think you're right, but I wouldn't expect the USA to be a signatory to a European convention, especially one as radically marxist is this one.

@brucelawson

You are saying this with tongue in cheek, right? To point out how extremely right-wing US politics is, to see a declaration of fundamental human rights as "radically Marxist"?

@LongJohn

Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’

Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

The Guardian

@brucelawson @hosford42 @LongJohn

Not everybody recognizes his statements as normal. I've seen a lot of critics too.
