I've been really laughing at Alex Norris of Webcomic name this morning. Does anyone know if they're on Fedi and if not we must get them here, as it is their natural home

Edit - sorry this is a bit awful and self-congratulatory, but despite seeing an image of a male-coded person, I didn't know Alex's pronouns so just automatically went for they/them and am thrilled to have subsequently found out this was the right move. Hurrah! Maybe we can evolve.

I realised after this edit that it's a bit unbearably 'look at me, aren't I great - doing the absolute bare minimum required of me', so first up - apols. It was meant from a place of love. But also - I was going to sarcastically say something like 'woo, look at me I'm such a man of the people', but it occurred to me how ironically inappropriate that would be, and then wondered if anyone has used the expression 'a them of the people' before. Just because I quite liked that.

@TheBreadmonkey A few years ago, as we neared and drove past a male coded bicyclist wearing a helmet and high vis, I commented approvingly to my spouse about "his" gear. Then realized I didn't know their pronouns, and decided to start defaulting to "they" or other gender neutral ways of referring to strangers.

I mostly do that as a reminder and to make it easier to not fuck up the pronouns of folks I do know. Which it does. They are all lovely and gracious when I have done, but I still end up feeling like an ass.

"They" as a default works well for me.

@TheBreadmonkey

It is good to point out ways to be better!

As to the subsequent question, how about "a person of the people"?

@stevegis_ssg

Oh no yours is way better and now I seem like a total bigot. WHAT ABOUT A THEY - no Ben, something already exists that is much less unhinged

@stevegis_ssg

I'm just messing about. X

@TheBreadmonkey He had a legal campaign over intellectual property to which I donated. Looks like he was at least partially successful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Norris_(cartoonist)?wprov=sfti1
Alex Norris (cartoonist) - Wikipedia

@purplepadma @TheBreadmonkey Reading part of the biography like:
[Panel one] "'relatable comics' became popular, and [Norris] became frustrated with this trend and decided to parody the genre"
[Panel two] "though they say that Webcomic Name did become a 'relatable comic' to many of the audience"
[Panel three] "Oh no"
@TheBreadmonkey I would love to get Extra Fabulous Comics over here if I could.
@TheBreadmonkey Judging by their social media post only 5 weeks ago reopening their webshop, I think they're still recovering from the multi-year legal battle where some company tried to own the rights to the comic characters outright rather than just produce a card game with them.

@TheBreadmonkey Webcomic name is so highly thought of that my server has emojis

@TheBreadmonkey Now, that's my kind of vampire!
