Another old laptop revamped with Linux Mint. This Dell Latitude e6330 originally came with Windows 7 on it, and had been upgraded to 10, but was running terribly slowly, taking over an hour to become usable after logging in! The spinning rust hard disk is slow but modern SSD standards, but it works well under Mint, taking about a minute to boot. It was donated by a kind pensioner and will now be offered for free on Telford #Freegle, our UK-only version of Freecycle. #LinuxMint #endof10
@cybervegan Can't believe I've never heard of this! I've got an old Thinkpad a275 that I no longer need. Looks like there's a freegle group near me, so I think I'll follow your lead and throw Mint on it and see if anyone needs it.
@afb Get on! That would be great. Freegle and Freecycle have been round ages, but they're kinda of hidden gems. It's super easy to install mint, even if you haven't before, and I can provide you with a "procedure" and a list of things I do after installation to make sure things stay working well, plus I've developed a "helpful hints" doc I include on the desktop so beginners can get to grips with the basics, if you're interested.
@cybervegan I'm comfortable installing/configuring Mint, but that helpful hints doc sounds like it'd be handy, thanks! Is it online anywhere?
@afb No it's not up yet, but I have a feeling a blog post is brewing...

System Reload Project It's been a while. Again. My brain's been out of action for a fair proportion of this year really, but after shutting down almost completely in the summer, a couple of months off
