Every now and then I get responses like this and can't stop shaking my head. Thankfully, it's very rare.

@adhd_coffee Here's an alt-text description of the image:

The image is a screenshot of a social media post, likely from Instagram. At the top of the screen is a user profile icon, followed by a username and a timestamp. Below that is a text post in a speech bubble format.

The username is "adhd_coffee." The timestamp reads "vor 2 Min." (which translates to "2 minutes ago"). The text post reads: "I don't have ADHDโ€ฆ" and continues with "Thanks for clarifying that. By doing so, you have distanced yourself from any objectivity and shown that you don't know what you're talking about, yet you impose your worldview on others ๐Ÿ˜‚."

Below the text, there are interaction buttons (like "like" and "comment") and at the very bottom, there are numbers indicating interactions, such as "0 Mal gefertigt" (which translates to "0 made") and "0 Mal favorisiert" (which translates to "0 times favored"). The background is a light color. The post appears to be responding to someone claiming the user has ADHD.

Here's an alt-text description of the image:

The image is a screenshot of a social media post, likely from Instagram, with a dark-themed interface. The top portion features a profile picture of a person with a blurred background. Below the profile picture is a text post with the following text: โ€œ[@]adhc.coffee medication is pure poison, embrace who you are and find something more natural to help.โ€ There are several small icons below the text representing likes, comments, and shares. The bottom portion shows a reply to the original post from another profile, with the text: โ€œ[@]adhc.coffee Iโ€™m sorry that the medication isnโ€™t working for you. However, every body reacts differently, and the phrase โ€œpure poisonโ€ is unnecessary generalization that only promotes a common stigma. Please try to think in absolutes. What is true for you may not be true for everyone else. Thank you!โ€ There are also small icons below this reply.

@adhd_coffee I love your answer โ€œIโ€™m not a photographer etc,โ€œ ๐Ÿคฃ
@adelinej I was actually pretty angry here, and I'm somewhat proud that I was restrained.

@adhd_coffee You did very well!

I looked in the comments in order to block this ignorant account but canโ€™t see it, Probably already blocked ๐Ÿ˜‚or my instance canโ€™t connect with their, anyway itโ€™s a good thing! ๐Ÿ˜†

@adelinej I still see his page. I guess I should block him too, but also - I am kind of interested in what mental gymnastics he comes up next. Fascinating ๐Ÿ˜…
@adhd_coffee Our brains love this kind of challenge, I know. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@adhd_coffee
Your replies were excellent...far kinder than mine would be.
@SnowyCA @adhd_coffee Mine would have been immediate a block, I donโ€™t waste anymore my time and energy with this kind of ignorance. ๐Ÿ˜†
@adelinej
@adhd_coffee
I understand your reaction, often I do the same but if I am not feeling too fed up at that moment, I speak up for in case any other ignorant person is reading the thread.

@SnowyCA @adhd_coffee Me too, before. But I learned to comment to educate, while blocking this kind of ignorant, itโ€™s much better for my mental health.

I can do it thanks to the ADHD medication Iโ€™m taking since recently as it allows me to better manage my emotions and reactions, ๐Ÿ˜Š

@adelinej @adhd_coffee

Indeed I can see how blocking is helpful.
I am not on meds for it because right after I was diagnosed with ADHD, my doctor retired and I moved out of the area so I am now on a list ๐Ÿ™„ for a replacement. At my age, and due to the lengthy wait times, that might a goal never reached.

@SnowyCA Ahhhhh ๐Ÿ˜žIโ€™m sorry. ๐Ÿซ‚

@adhd_coffee

@adelinej @adhd_coffee
thanks. Hopefully my new really awesome family doctor will find a way to get things moving a little faster.

@SnowyCA If you have a diagnosis, your MD can prescribe you a medication? But it may not be possible in your province?

@adhd_coffee

@adelinej @adhd_coffee

I don't know if that's possible, but I could check with him. Thanks for the suggestion.
I think he's been concentration on sorting out physical issues. He is so new to me, and just opened his practise in Canada, I've had only two appointments with him so far.

@SnowyCA Hoping that it could be possible. I having also physical issues and they are easier to manage with the medication.

But, before getting a prescription he will send you to a cardiologist to make sure you can take this kind of medication. But you had maybe already seen one for that?

@adelinej Yes, I have been checked and have a healthy heart. My only problem is my Bp often drops too low.

@adhd_coffee I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I've really hated this line of thinking because it's what led my mom to not get me medication when I really needed it in school. I had to jump through the hoops of getting diagnosed as an adult, which was pain.

There was also someone else on fedi saying ADHD meds are a Silicon Valley thing, and I felt so confused...

@domo Iโ€™m sorry you went through that.

I have been diagnosed this summer with ADHD, at 53, and had to argue with my MD because she didnโ€™t want to prescribe medication as I only have a โ€œlightโ€ ADHD. ๐Ÿ™„ She was more for natural methods, as if I never tried anything before.,,

And sheโ€™s now such amazed to see the benefits I get from itโ€ฆ

Ignorance about ADHD medication is also so spread too in the medical community.

@adhd_coffee

@adhd_coffee "embrace who you are" >"and"< "find something more natural to help"...

Logic doesn't seem to be their strongpoint.

@hauchvonstaub

After several responses from that person... Logic his arch nemesis - or "Typischer Schwurbler".

@adhd_coffee Ah, the classic "armchair expert" who gets their information from a random sensationalist newsrag and think they need to "educate" everyone else. I've got one in the family unfortunately.

My husband is on a cocktail of drugs for diabetes, high blood pressure and a heart condition. They all have known side effects, some of them quite worrying.

Would I like him to not take them? Absolutely! On the other hand, my husband being alive and enjoying a good quality of life is pretty important to me (and him!).

Judging people who take medication, regardless of the condition, is ignorant and disrespectful.

I wouldn't personally engage with that kind of twat as they never learn, but you gave a good, measured response and perhaps they'll slink back under their rock and keep their unwanted opinions to themselves (we can hope).

@onlinegoddess Thanks for the reply. I had to laugh when you mentioned that you consider "being alive" to be quite important ๐Ÿ˜…

Regarding the last paragraph: No, these people are not receptive to arguments and will continue to spew their nonsense on the internet. Once they reveal themselves, you can give up any hope of reason and just view it as pure entertainment. "What mental gymnastics will they come up with next?" And so on.

Or better yet: mute or ignore them.

@adhd_coffee Yes, it's a small benefit but a notable one. ๐Ÿคฃ

I used to argue with idiots on the internet all the time 20 odd years ago. Like playing whack-a-mole, you block one and another always pops up! ๐Ÿ˜‚

@adhd_coffee

"I don't have ADHD, but..."

If that had been a real conversation that would've been an immediate interjection with "Then STFU".

His following excuses sound just like "but some of my favourite acquaintances are black..."
