B.C. Rich Warlock Elvira

The B.C. Rich Warlock is an aggressively pointy guitar. Your basic set neck, couple of humbuckers, tune-o-matic bridge style, but aggressively pointy.

This is the limited edition Elvira model from 2001. It features body binding, string-through-body ferrules, a custom bat 12th fret inlay with no other fret markers, and a nearly life-sized headshot of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark on the body. The picture has a slight purplish tint to it for some reason, which is good enough for our purposes here.

Also, this specific guitar has been autographed and held by actress Cassandra Peterson, who btw, was 50 in the year this guitar was released, (no idea when this picture was actually taken). So good for her.

You might be thinking, didn’t we just feature another guitar from this same brand earlier this month‽ Must be the season of the [B.C.] Rich.

But wait, there’s more!

Elvira autographed Viper by BGutars

If that wasn’t purple enough for you, here we have a Strat-style with a single humbucker in a black to purple burst. Nice.

We once went to a shop in Las Vegas that sold autographed memorabilia, including, ahem, “guitars.” But they were the absolute dirt-cheapest off-brand guitars that we have ever seen. They were guitar shaped objects. The signatures may have well been on a napkin, because the artists would never play that. They probably never even touched it, if we assume that someone else was holding it while they signed. This has very much that same energy.

That is not really fair, because for all we know, Viper by BGuitars could be a quality brand. But typically “[Something] by [Somebody]” indicates their cheaper, licensed version, and the idea that this is the cheaper version of a brand we already never heard of is not encouraging.

Still more!

Samick JTR EV-10 Elvira

Remember last Halloween, when we thought that an SG would look cool with violin c-bouts‽ [https://beige.party/@Neat_hot/113403966881874943]

Well so did Elvira! Or at least, so did Samick. When we were young, there was a pizza place that had an Elvira pinball machine. But, truth be told, we are actually not that familiar with Elvira’s body of work. We have no idea if she even plays guitar at all.

Samick is a Korean company who we vaguely recall once claimed to be the biggest guitar manufacturer on the planet. Maybe they were, maybe they are, maybe it was just hype. (Maybe we made that up?) In any case, they mostly build licensed import models for other brands. (Putting the “by” in “[Something] by [Somebody].” They also occasionally make their own branded instruments.

This is a 24 fret SG-type shape with violin style cutouts. Single hubucker, single knob. String-through-body, which seems to be how Elvira likes it? And not to brag, but we were right, it does look cool as hell.

Painted with a black top over a candy apple red body, which gives 60s Adam West Batmobile vibes. Not purple though, which is a shame. But we’re trick-or-treating here! Maybe the next house will have something good.

What if you don’t care about Elvira at all, and just want a nice purple B.C. Rich Warlock‽ Fear not, fam! (Or, you know, still be frightful, as befitting the season, but be frightful of this!)

B.C. Rich “Japan Monster” Warlock

Another limited edition, made in Japan, and coincidentally(?) also from 2001.

This one has EMG pickups and a wraparound bridge. Single diamond inlay at the 12th fret. Here you can really see the B.C. Rich “widow” headstock, which looks like the sort of horned helmet that an evil wizard might wear. The headstock is purple to match the body.

@Neat_hot
I remember the shop I went to as a learning youth had a BC Rich on the rack and being like what the FUCK IS that thing?!
@the_etrain Pretty sure that’s their entire raison d’être.
@Neat_hot All guitars are beautiful and all that, but damn, this one looks like it's particleboard, sawed and can sprayed by a teenager at dad's garage, lol.
@jussi We do appreciate creativity (even if do not necessarily appreciate the results.)
@Neat_hot "...affordable-looking guitar" made me laugh.
@DaleOh People love a “hot deal.”
