Dammit Robin, get your head on straight!!

I decided to add two very large signs to our yard for Halloween. Like so. I’ll also have LED flashlights propped near them for visibility. There are .. other.. reasons this is relevant that I’ll show later.
As promised
one thing I learned last night is that thermodynamics means being a superhero is impossible
@codinghorror the billionaire batman class can afford coolant loops in their batsuits while the working batmen suffer 😤
@kepeken Lucius is on it 🦊
@codinghorror As everyone knows, Superheroes extract energy from the aether/zero point, and expel again instantly in the form of whichever power they’ve been gifted. No energy is created or destroyed, just transmuted from one form into another, and it doesn’t burn any more calories than cognition.
@lo_fye @codinghorror just curious: how is that energy then extracted back to the aether/zero point? If it's not the earth system's total energy increases each time a sup uses it's powers that could accumulate quite fast with a rather bad outcome for earth
@codinghorror not with that attitude, pal.
@codinghorror no-one should praise DV when a simple exchange between partners would have been equally effective.
@codinghorror Arkham wouldn't need to exist if Bruce Wayne put his vast fortunes toward GMI, rather than infantile theatrics
@paneerakbari but the infantile theatrics are so much cheaper.. and way less work!
@codinghorror
Some heroes sometimes wear capes.
@codinghorror "other reasons" is Peter Thiel your neighbour ?
@deepfryed I absolutely would NOT live here if he was, for one thing
@codinghorror I think this is better for visibility than the underpants, unless I very poorly understand your life.
Also, thanks for putting up this sign in a well off neighborhood.
@codinghorror I never knew the meme version had reversed the image!
@christmastree that surprised me too. I wonder why?
@codinghorror @christmastree A leftie felt underrepresented. 😉
@bradwilson @codinghorror @christmastree I think it's as obvious as English people read left to right, so it works better as a joke delivery mechanism. 😅
@codinghorror The wild part of this is Robin is "radical" to at least 30% of US voters.
@codinghorror Batman's statement may be correct from an idealized perspective, but Robin's statement highlights that the contract which we all live under, justified or not, has been and continues to be violated.
@codinghorror if the penalty for failing to fit in is death, we are worse than most animals. The lack of basic humanity is appalling.
@codinghorror At least Robin is trying. Unlike many Americans and most American politicians.
@codinghorror This is like saying that nobody should ever be sad.
@pinguino well, actually, money does help for a lot of things

@pinguino @codinghorror ideally, yes

Especially when easily preventable

@purple @codinghorror But impossible.

@pinguino @codinghorror putting aside that the proposition was actually about preventing poverty not sadness, …an awful lot of sadness can be avoided actually.

Eliminating poverty would go a long way to doing that in fact.

Yes certainly, people will still die and that'll be sad, and sometimes things won't go your way and that may sting.

But the despair of being unable to provide for your children, the tragedy of life lost to poor nutrition, and so much more, they very much can be avoided.

@purple @codinghorror How do you avoid parents being unable to provide for their children? Or to be malnourished?
@pinguino @codinghorror you feed them
@purple @codinghorror I don't have the resources to feed millions of people.
@pinguino @codinghorror society, collective humanity
@purple @codinghorror Humanity includes parents.
@pinguino @codinghorror also millionaires
@purple @codinghorror So, who's gonna pay, all humanity or just a few?
@pinguino @codinghorror humanity collectively, each according to ability
@purple @codinghorror Who comes to decides each one's ability?
@pinguino @codinghorror we call it democracy
@purple @codinghorror Oh, so Donald Trump comes to decide?
@pinguino @purple @codinghorror
Isn’t this exactly why we are getting taxed?
To cover for welfare?
Still… there is poverty.
So is the system broken? Or is it simply collectively unaffordable?
@pinguino @codinghorror batman has a slap waiting for you.
@pinguino @codinghorror you are the dumbest piece of shitforbrains on this site
