“I have nothing to hide”: Why Privacy Matters

Does this statement make your hair stand on end? Unfortunately, the “nothing to hide” argument has persisted for far too long and often prevents any constructive discussion about privacy protection on the Internet. It’s high time to debunk it.

Höchste Zeit also, damit aufzuräumen.

I would like to see "... but government actors who want to influence public opinion with targeted disinformation ..." expanded to the ultra rich and powerful, your Musks, Bezos', whathaveyou, that are not (officially) part of any government, yet wield so much clout, they might as well be ..

@threemaapp

I have nothing to hide and it's non of your rucking business

@threemaapp Pushing the "right to be forgotten" like that is dishonest: it has nothing to do with protecting your privacy from mass surveillance, but instead demands everyone else to erase some of their their data and silence opinions. I rely on reputation when dealing with other people, and wouldn't want assholes using state violence to clean their name.
@L29Ah You’re right. We’ve removed this parenthetical reference.
@threemaapp As many in Trumpistan have found when Gestapo, sorry ICE, look at their socials...
@threemaapp Unfortunately, I hear this "I have nothing to hide" very often. But then I always ask myself, why are all these ugly thuja hedges in the front yards two meters high in the neighborhood?
@threemaapp EVERYONE have something to hide, actually.
