I've read a lot of commentary about Ontario's anti-#TrumpTariff, #RonaldReagan advertising.

The most insightful comment I saw was in the #GlobeAndMail: this is how Pres. Trump negotiates. He was always going to give signs that a deal was close, then blow up the negotiations over something. These ads were a pretext; if it hadn't been the ads, it would be something else.

As for the ads themselves, I hope that when the White House crashes the economy, Rs will remember what they used to believe.

For what it's worth, #DavidFrum strongly supports the Ontario advertisement. He thinks it's been "super successful".

Trade discussions 'will get easier' for Canada in 2026: David Frum | Power & Politics

@mpjgregoire I suspect that classic conservatives like Frum are smelling blood in the water with respect to the base's acceptance of Trump and his ilk as the natural evolution of American conservatism / the GOP. One can hope.

@virtuous_sloth The rise of Pres. Trump as the dominant figure in today's American conservative movement should make everyone shake their heads. Did Republicans really believe what they said they believed? What is worth giving up in order to win? To what are our ideas ours just because they're what our team supports?

I can name one writer who in 2016 was saying that Donald Trump would be a divine chastisement upon the Republic — but who voted for him in 2024.
