Technology fun.
Part 1.

Car head unit working fine with android auto.

Had a Google play update.

Now connection error.

Forum suggestions uninstall google play services. All good, works again.

Go to buy something and phones tap and go isn't working. Payment Card has disappeared. Have to walk out empty handed and figure out problem.

Fiddle around adding card again.

Today google updates play services. Breaks head unit again.
Latter to to pay and it doesn't work. Card is there though. Have to click through t&cs and get card installed again, whike waiting at counter.

Retailer has a link hidden in the description to a firmware upgrade.

Booted up Mint live usb,
Formatted another usb, copy file on it. Stick it in head unit, says do you want to update mpeg version. Hit ok.

System goes purple then blotches to black. The just sits there.

Turn power off/on and get back to normal screen.

Webpage suggestions having engine running, doing factory reset before update. No dice.

Web search. Only two forums. One is a legal question if guy can get a refund for the fault. Other is same guy and another talking about the firmware update. Working for them in just a few minutes.

Try again, wait longer and longer. Still stays blank.

Download file again, format another usb. Still same.
Usb light shows it is constantly being read while screen is black.

When to windows work pc, full format of using same usb stick, new file download.

Plug in, is recognised, starts updating, but this time there is a progress dial showing. Couple of minutes later and it is all fixed. Set up steering wheel controls/ time etc and good to go.
