I never owned a barbie myself. I was more a He-Man and Transformers kid.

Day 3 of #Arttrober is Nakoruru, from the SNK fighting game series Samurai Shodown.

Nakoruru is often portrayed with her hawk Mamahaha, so it seemed appropriate to draw them together... but this is a daily drawing challenge and my time is limited, so no hawk today (sorry Mamahaha!).

I tried for an 'in-motion' pose, but I think I may have just made her look all tangled up in invisible rope. Oh well.

I recall watching a lot of Scooby Doo when I was a kid, too long ago. I didn't see the 2023 'Velma' series, only some of the online commentary, so I can't possibly comment on it.

Day 6 of #Arttrober is Terra Branford from Final Fantasy 6.

Man, I remember when I was really into Final Fantasy. The modern iterations of the series don't seem to do anything for me though. I did enjoy and recently finish Octopath Traveler, and maybe one day I'll try and get back into Bravely Default.

Day 9 of #Arttrober is Sarah Kerrigan, from the Starcraft duology of videogames.

I was a fan of Starcraft (and the Warcraft RTS trilogy) back in the day, though I never played Starcraft 2. I understand Kerrigan went through some de-infestation and re-infestation, so I had a bit of a choice as to 'version' of her I could draw. I went for Primal Zerg (I think).

Maybe I should pick up Starcraft 2 sometime.

Day 10 of #Arttrober is Ayanami Rei of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.

A simpler one than yesterday's effort; not sure I quite captured Rei's look though.

Regarding Evangelion, it's one of those higher profile animes that I've absorbed a fair amount of knowledge about without ever actually getting around to watching it. Possibly because it was recommended to me a bit too hard.

Another old Hanna-Barbera character who I vaguely remember from my childhood. I remember a number of other Hanna-Barbera characters (Yogi Bear, Top Cat, etc.), but I can't say they left much of an impression on me.

Day 12 of #Arttrober is Zero from the Mega Man videogames (specifically the X and Zero subseries).

I remember Zero from Mega Man X, where he rescues X in the prologue and generally acts like a cooler and haughtier version of X—but red and with a ponytail. There's probably more to his character than that. I only played a couple of Mega Man games, and wasn't especially good at them.

Day 14 of #Arttrober is Jessica Rabbit from the film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

My memories of the film are a little murky, but I remember it fairly fondly. Certainly there have been very few films quite like it. Or maybe, with the prevalence of CGI, every film is now like it, in an odd kind of way.

I might have gone a little too far trying to make Jessica sparkle.

Day 16 of #Arttrober is Guts, the protagonist of the manga Berserk.

I saw the first anime adaptation of Berserk many years ago, and later read most of the manga as was released then. I also watched the later anime series released in 2016. Things that stuck out: an evolving art-style, almost relentless grimness, Susumu Hirasawa's soundtrack.

I don't think I've quite captured Guts likeness here though.

Day 17 of #Arttrober is Snow White, of fairy tale and Disney movie fame.

I went for the depiction of Snow White from the original 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film, since that's by far and away the most recognisable version of her.

I struggled with her face for this one. Not quite sure why. Mid-challenge fatigue I suppose.

Day 18 of #Arttrober is Chun-Li, one of the fighters of the Street Fighter videogame franchise. Specifically, Chun-Li as depicted in the Street Fighter Alpha games.

Even I know Street Fighter! Though I haven't played any of the recent ones. Or any fighting games, really.

I had to work on this one while travelling today, so frankly I'm glad it didn't come out a complete mess.

I did watch some of the anime adaptation, but it didn't really appeal to me—at least not at the time.

I think I need to rethink how I draw glossy surfaces and fabrics. I'm never really satisfied with the result. I guess I should do more art study, and develop a new technique. When I have more time perhaps.

G.I. Joe was something I was aware of as a child, but wasn't nearly as interested in as Transformers toys and media. So I really don't know much about the characters and storylines.

Sakura Wars is another videogame series that passed me by, I'm afraid, so I know almost nothing about it.

Nevertheless, I do quite like drawing characters in traditional Japanese garb, and I got to practice drawing a character in a dynamic pose, so it's all good.

Day 22 of #Arttrober is Komori Aimi of the manga Shadow Lady, in her guise as the eponymous character.

Until yesterday evening, I'd never even heard of Shadow Lady—but apparently it was actually quite a popular manga in its day.

I do quite like discovering new mangas (and shows and games and so forth) from doing these drawing prompts, even if I rarely find the time to investigate further.

Jean Grey has a lot of costume options, but I decided to play with fire and draw one of her Phoenix incarnations.

Looking through my recent posts, I make a lot of comments about not really knowing certain characters or shows or comics... but even I know Jean Grey and the X-Men. They tried to bring the Dark Phoenix saga to film twice after all.

Day 24 of #Arttrober is Ayane from the fighting game series and occasional volleyball simulator Dead or Alive.

I think Dead or Alive might be the major fighting game franchise I know least about, in comparison to the likes of Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur. In any case, I went for Ayane's 'classic' look for this prompt.

Cowboy Bebop is an old favourite of mine, though it's been a while since I last watched it. It might be time to do that again, given that it's one of the few animes I own a physical copy of.

There was also the live action remake, but unfortunately I never got an opportunity to see it—mainly due to not having a Netflix subscription.

Though I recall watching a lot of He-Man as a child, I don't actually remember much about any of the characters other than Skeletor and He-Man himself. I don't recall the Sorceress at all.

I'm not sure why I decided to draw her looking so very unimpressed with everything.
