I can't help but note the spectacle of Premier Danielle Smith passing legislation to remove the rights and freedoms of workers across the province...

And then flying to meetings with two countries that are "absolute monarchies" - Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

According to the news release "While in Saudi Arabia, Premier Danielle Smith will meet with government leaders in the energy and health sectors and leaders managing sovereign wealth investments, as well as the oil industry, including executives from Saudi Aramco, one of the largest oil companies in the world."

Little known fact, Alberta is working on integrating AI into our health information. I find it interesting that energy and health were the two areas mentioned in the release.

This is not a defence of Saudi Arabia or the UAE. Fuck them both.

However, it is high time people in this country start questioning the fact that these are close allies. We supply them with diplomatic cover and we sell arms to them. We help them suppress democracy in their country.

It is laughable to talk about our superior Canadian values in the face of this hypocrisy.

Let me not get started on our support for genocide…

That is not new. Oil money has been invested in the West since there was oil money. Remember that those states only exist because Britain and France decided to create them. They are absolutely beholden to the West for their survival.

I think the shift in thinking that we need is that our leaders are closer in spirit and character to the leaders of those autocratic states than they are to most of us. And that most of us are closer in spirit and character to the citizens of those autocratic states than to our leaders.
