Clearly, I do not understand facing in CNC.

Thought I’d set up everything only to see the head plunge into the piece and break both the custom holder and the bit.

#makera #diy #cnc

@aminorjourney Haven't we all?

What makera are you using? I'm thinking on getting the Z1 for small things I usually do.

@Nixie Apparently!

I have the Air. I was one of the earliest kickstarters.

I was trying to face something I’d made on the 4th axis, with a rough z height profile.

I homed the unit to centre point. I told it where I wanted the z home to be.

EIther it did not listen or I got it wrong. It was off by the same mm as the start depth from z 0

Unfortunately, most of today's projects have been questionable:

1) Try to get my #FCSP working again by opening it up and doing a UART connection - successful, but no further along in fixing it.

2) Making a VESA mount for the rack that goes in my server room - that was at least successful...

3) Trying to face off my pieces in the Carvera Air. Meh...

@aminorjourney @Nixie That advice probably comes a bit late, but it's always a good idea to do a test run without the material to see whether coordinates etc are right.
I've had more than enough mill bit shrapnel fly through the workshop during my apprenticeship because people misplaced a decimal point in gcode or similar easy mistakes.. ;-)
