#SteveBannon, the pro-#Trump podcaster & convicted fraudster who briefly served as Trump’s White House chief strategist in his first term, publicly threw his support behind Trump’s talk of seeking a 3rd term, in defiance of a constitutionally mandated 2-term limit.

Bannon Claims ‘There Is a Plan’ for Trump to Run for a Third Term

The claim comes after months of President Trump toying with the idea, insisting that he is “not joking” about defying a constitutionally-mandated term limit.

The New York Times

In an interview with The Economist, #Bannon vaguely asserted that there was “a plan”to circumvent the #22ndAmendment, which states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice,”regardless of whether the terms are consecutive. He also suggested that he was part of a team developing that plan.

#Trump is going to be president in ’28, & people ought to just get accommodated with that,”he said.

Inside the mind of MAGA: a conversation with Steve Bannon | The Economist Insider

Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, has a worldview that contradicts that of The Economist. He’s a populist nationalist; this publication is classically liberal. But liberalism demands dialogue with those who oppose it. And as liberal values retreat worldwide, understanding Mr Bannon’s ideas—which have animated many people on both sides of the Atlantic—has become essential. Zanny Minton Beddoes, our editor-in-chief, and Ed Carr, deputy editor, sit down with Mr Bannon in his home in Washington, DC to ask about how he envisions progress, power and America’s place in the world. They discuss what the MAGA movement is trying to create, whether America is at risk of civil war and why he’s certain that Donald Trump needs—and will achieve—a third presidential term.

“At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is,” said #Bannon, without elaborating. “But there is a plan.” He added that #Trump was an “instrument of divine will,” echoing, as Trump himself has, the language of the divine right of #kings.

‘The Return of the King’: Trump Embraces Trappings of the Throne

Restored to power, President Trump claimed that God put him there and asserted the right to single-handedly redraw the world map as he sees fit.

The New York Times

Bannon’s statement comes after months of #Trump publicly toying with the idea of running for a 3rd term. Even as Trump insists he is serious, some #Republican leaders have dismissed the idea as a joke, noting the #Constitution does not permit it. White House aides have mocked reporters for taking Trump at his word.

Trump has for years publicly & privately joked about being “president for life.”

@Nonilex They're just testing the waters..
. Interested to see how the supreme court throws him that one, if it comes to it

@Nonilex Seems like the obvious strategy is this: Vance runs, with Trump as his nominal running mate. Vance's first act after being sworn in is to resign, making Trump president. Trump then appoints Vance his VP.

This follows the letter of the 22nd amendment: Trump is not *elected* president again. But now he's president all the same.

You can repeat this trick as many times as you need to.

Alternative: make Trump Speaker of the House (*anyone* can be made that). Then pres & VP both resign.

@marsroverdriver @Nonilex handing over the keys is fairly simple. If everyone would have just helped Grandpa over the finish line, he could have gave the keys to Harris. Instead, they chucked him out of his wheelchair and dumped him down the stairs.

'merica!

@marsroverdriver @Nonilex Vlad can give him the precise playbook he ran in Russia to do the same thing
@marsroverdriver @Nonilex Such schemes would involve a degree of trust and temporary acceptance of a subordinate position. Both are non-starters with the wretched old man.
@fgbjr @Nonilex Feel free to speculate about what *you* think they have in mind. That's what *I* think they have in mind.
@marsroverdriver @Nonilex this is the shit that Putin pulled to get to be President or Prime Minister for decades - either one was good
@Nonilex His “jokes” are always trial balloons

@Nonilex Here's a link that doesn't give the NY Times any revenue: https://archive.is/DO7x8

This article is over nine months old and has no real relevance now...

@TomSwirly

The relevance is the analysis of the language being used.

It’s not “news” — it’s linguistic analysis

@Nonilex Yeahhhh, Itchy Steve doesn't get to decide who the next president is

@Nonilex

When Putin was first elected President, Russia had a 2 term limit. Trump/Bannon's inspiration.

@Nonilex

"accommodated with that?" Yeah, there's no room at the inn.
