To be blunt, when we first got the @gofedi site up and running, my main concern was just having a web presence while we migrate SpaceHost customers to our new service.

Because here’s the truth: right before @spacehost shuts down, we hammered out a deal to move instances over so nobody loses their community. And honestly, it would be tragic if all those great servers—including mine—just vanished because #SpaceHost is sunsetting.

However, once the site went live, it immediately got attention—so I decided to lean into it.

So yes, @gofedi exists. It’s here because there should be a fully managed Fediverse host—based in Canada—that gives people choice in both software and service.

And yeah, it’s a little wild that I’m doing this while also co-founding the Federated Video Co-op Initiative.

But god damn it—the best way to grow the Fediverse is to actually get more servers running.

Totally understand that and your dedication is really appreciated.
Though, #SpaceHost, the company you were involved with before was the only #Fediverse hosting provider that raised major red flags back when I did my hosting provider comparison a few months ago: https://joinfediverse.wiki/Hosting_an_instance
e.g. no information on where servers and company is located, who the team is, no privacy policy and ToS, no information at all, basically a total lack off transparency. And now regarding #GoFedi it doesn't help if you state this info scattered in threads somewhere around here, just put it on the website where it belongs. This is also crucial in terms of taking responsibility. Thank you for considering this in the future and good luck with the migrations 🙏

@nb Correction: I have not been involved with SpaceHost since January 2024.

GoFedi is also not open to the public until we successfully migrate SpaceHost servers over. That is our first and most important priority.
@[email protected] @spacehost @gofedi This is actually a really nice update, thank you for everything you've done and doing for the Fediverse. Can't wait to see the new service up and running and being able to login to it from the new servers.
