Enshitification reaches your kitchen appliances! How do you feel about your expensive fridge pushing ads at you?

I will never buy any appliance which requires an internet connection, but this device brings us one step closer to hell. You can *never* turn off the ads? I'd be tempted to whack it with a crowbar.

"(Samsung) says the move will “strengthen” its home appliances “every day value” for customers."

This is only true where customers = advertisers.

One day soon some clever manufacturer will invent a range of dumb fridges, kettles, toasters, light switches and all those other things we use daily, and which should *never* require the internet to work

@BobLefridge I agree! The nearest thing we have ever been, or ever will be, to having a smart fridge is a magnetic white-board and marker pen attached to the front of it.
Looking forward to the day those wonderful dumb devices are invented! 😆

For most of my life I was an early adopter with helpful tech. Little did I imagine that I'd hit my 70s with no smart devices, no cellphone, no apps (not one) and no subs to streaming services. I no longer play those games.

Yet oddly, my life feels more fulfilled these days. I believe the absence of tech demanding my attention has helped me to better appreciate simplicity and the value of solitude. I have no intention of changing this serendipitous situation.

@BobLefridge @98Percent ... But I need to be able to turn my toaster on 5 minutes before I get home said no one ever.
@juliaclement @BobLefridge So right. The only thing I would like to be able to turn on before we’re home is maybe the heat pump, sometimes.
