Do you have fun zines about how to switch away from big tech? Maybe a little intro to Mastodon, or something about the thrills of libre office?

I'm going to do a little peer workshop in a bit to help activists with a non-tech background start shifting away from big tech.

It would be cool to have some zines/printouts to share.

@scroeser You can print @The_Counterforce’s Guide to the Fediverse as a #zine. Scroll to the bottom and there’s a few different PDF format options to choose from. https://the-counterforce.org/guide-to-mastodon-fediverse/

@scroeser
Might I suggest getting in touch with @b0rk she does various zines on tech subjects and may be able to provide some insights / answers
@scroeser I'm afraid it's not a zine, but it's a pretty good resource for switching away from big tech platforms. Check out https://www.privacyguides.org/en/tools/#cross-platform-tools

@facilitato looks useful, thank you!
@scroeser I'm not capable of opening the links and checking if they are like zines right now but I didn't want to miss on helping here. Should I post the links here or you prefer a more direct message?
@MariFada either is fine with me, I appreciate the help!

@scroeser I’ve actually been printing them and sharing them at local community and youth centers. They’ve been a hit!

Everyone gets so excited when I share them it. It’s a fun joy practice too!

@scroeser Tagging this for #SolarPunkSunday #LoTech. Maybe try searching those hashtags?
@scroeser There is also something callled #LoTechMagazine out there. I've found some good articles there.
@DoomsdaysCW I love LoTech! Not exactly what I'm thinking of, though - more helping people switch from WhatsApp to Signal, Microsoft Office to Libre Office, maybe Linux if we're ambitious.
@scroeser Oh, well, a lot of the #SolarPunkSunday folks post about #Linux parties and the like. #EndOfWindows10

@scroeser Here from GrapheneOS. It's so refreshing installing Google Play Services as a non privileged user and sandboxing them. No, I don't think I will let you access my sensors, physical activity, etc. Google. Piss off lmao. Also ditched Microsoft after they ended support for Windows 10 and switched to Linux. Highly recommend. Another thing, for anyone using open source software. Those devs are generous enough to let us use their software for free. Be generous as well and support them. 💵💵💵
@scroeser Hey, i may send u my digital/privacy/challange/practise workshop support. There are some referencies, mostly in french. Idk if it would match what you need. See ya!
@scroeser I made a zine about the advantages of the fediverse, along with how to join Mastodon. It's a one page zine you can print, modify, and distribute however you like https://docpop.org/2025/04/mastodon-zine-rough-draft/
Mastodon Zine Rough Draft - Doc Pop's Weblog

Here’s a Mastodon-themed zine that I’ve been working on for a while. I started this a year ago, but put it on pause because I didn’t think it was getting to where I’d like it to be. I decided to bring this project back out and make some tweaks to it before sharing the draft […]

Doc Pop's Weblog
@docpop @scroeser looks neat! For v3 can I suggest losing the justification on pages 4 & 5 (maybe 5 doesn't have justify on but the kerning is different to other pages) as it makes it harder to read? Otherwise I love it!
@squee @scroeser that’s great feedback, thank you!
@docpop @scroeser

When I click on your link I get something not very human readable :(
@ewen @scroeser yeah that happens sometimes and I’ve never been able to track the issue down. But it’s usually solvable if you click the link again.

@scroeser

Hi Sky, I run a website at https://fedi.tips which tries to provide a non-technical easy-to-understand guide to Mastodon and the Fediverse.

You can also find links to other guides at https://fedi.tips/what-do-i-do-next-are-there-any-other-guides-to-mastodon-and-the-fediverse
