@lislegaard @counivers Listening to some great music today. I love this so much blending traditional instruments with elektronisk.

@SpaDogs @counivers

Yeah!! Norwegian electronic folk music gets around!

@lislegaard @SpaDogs First ever #talkbox in nordic folk? 😄
@counivers @lislegaard Been listening to your record a lot. Love the vinyl even better than the digital files. Did you use a different master? Asking as I have been trying to better understand vinyl mastering.
@SpaDogs @lislegaard As far as I know it's the same master, will have to check. It's mastered by Christian Obermayer which is a very skilled guy, it really made a big difference.
@counivers @lislegaard I've working on the art of mastering and have found that vinyl presents some physical challenges. I can see using a vinyl master for digital, but would think you might run into issues the other way round. I see that Christian Obermayer has done a lot of CDs and Vinyl so it will be interesting to learn if he made two masters.
@SpaDogs @lislegaard It was the same for the first album we made, can check for the second one.

FInally got time to check, it's the exact same master for the digi and LP, level at around -10 LUFS. I guess Christian decided that we wouldn't need stereo below 300hz digitally. It's mastered with an M/S technique where the mono and stereo channels are compressed on outboard separately and decoded back in to stereo. I don't have a setup for that but it would be nice to try one day. You can do similar things digitally in Izoptope tho but I guess the outboard sounds better.
@counivers @lislegaard Thank you for checking this. I've found that keeping a target of -10 LUFS with true peak at about -2 db and being mindful to keep frequencies below 300Hz mono has worked very well. I am also controlling high frequencies above18kHz to prevent distortion. My process uses the included tools in Cubase. I like the sound better than izotope. However I think outboard equipment will always sound more musical so happy you're able to use it (in my dreams.
@SpaDogs @lislegaard True! I think it's even more important to know the tools well than what you use, but the Izotope maximizer is really bad! I think the EQ and dynamics are good tho, but not as good as (expensive) hardware. Got a hardware compressor but not an EQ.
@counivers @lislegaard You have a start. Great goal to have an analogue hardware mastering chain.
