Thank you @fynn1 ! It’s just pigment liner briskly hatched. A bit like dry brush technique, the colour just catches on the peaks of the watercolour paper’s tooth. You keep building up the density where you want it darker and as the pen runs out from all the punishment it just offers you subtler tones! Super fun to render and quick to do - I’m using the same method for ‘Button’ now.
@wednesday Thank you for the great explanation of the technique. I've got to try it. I'm usually contouring with a 0.5-1.0mm technical ink pen but shading with a 4B pencil. Whenever I try to shade with the ink pen I end up pressing too hard once or twice ruining the surface. More practice needed 🤓✒️
