A circle for each person, double lines between circles to show marriage, and vertical lines branching as needed for children.

This diagram is wonky, and interesting in that it incorporates type. Hey, it’s from 1811.

In #GIMP3 i used value propagate (amount approx. sqrt(2) darker) to prevent the lines from vanishing when scaling down.

@bosak yeah, i’m surprised it wasn’t engraved, or with simply names, and the rest in subsequent text. There are not many pictures in the book.

The obvious way to’ve done it is with cutting holes in the block - risking splitting the wood, maybe that’s why it’s wonky! The other way is with 2 impressions, but that’d be even harder to fit the text inside!

@barefootliam I'm having a hard time visualizing this. Are you saying the this was a woodcut with the type set into it?
@bosak the hard thing would be locking the type down, but yes, woodblocks or, later, engraved plates, with holes in them for type were certainly used.
