Ugh .. trying to unravel the mess my Mama's laptop is in. Microsoft really have designed office tools to bamboozle everyone into using OneDrive and fuck them very much for that.

(Yes I know I should try to move her to Linux, but she's doing her best and we're still working on getting off facey. 🤦)

@pixelcats I share your pain, particularly as I deal with the fallout of Microsoft's increasingly toxic strategies day in day out. If she is ever brave enough to make the leap to a user friendly distro of Linux and LibreOffice, I'd definitely advise it (this from a Microsoft MVP btw!) because MS just ain't in it for the peeps any more, they're in it for pure unadulterated profit and information mining (I guess just like all the other big tech players)

@peejmaybe Yeah I completely agree .. that's the ideal move.

Mum is retired, but she still does a lot of consulting work with various education orgs and here in Aus, MS and Google still rule those worlds, so getting her confident enough in Linux/LibreOffice so she feels she can still collab efficiently with everyone she needs to work with is going to take some time.

@peejmaybe
I have a similar struggle. I run Linux on one of my laptops, but the other still runs Windoze because I need to be able to plugin to university systems. Ugh!
@pixelcats Im in Edu IT as well so yeah I can fully understand where your mum would need to use stuff based in O365 or Google. Sucks though, I mean a lot of edu IT would love to see MS get a bloody nose and have all their stuff replaced by open source. It's been a hot topic at our place for years but alas folk just fell in love with the idea of not having to maintain systems on beige boxes under someone's desk
