May the 8th be slightly late for you.

Scratch-built original lightsabre prop.

Just thowing some random junk pieces together to make something that resembles "a" lightsabre, rather than trying to replicate any particular one.

Included a sprung trigger, so it "totally" works.

More views of the original Lightsabre build.

There's parts from a vacuum cleaner and a PC power supply, part of a clothes hanger, bottle tops, and a cotton reel.

The grip of the lightsabre prop is part of the pole that held a shower head. Being real metal means it polished up really well.

The trigger mechanism uses half a clip from a clothes hangar as a lever.
This pushes down a plastic rod "plunger" to depress a spring housed in a larger rod inside the body of the lightsabre.

@DrH That looks great!

I'm regularly on the RPF where there are a lot of lightsaber fanatics who do absolutely amazing work, but I love creative home-built ones more than the ultra-precise replicas myself.

@croyle There's a whole level of skill and pain involved in creating exact replicas of "things".

Sometimes it nice to just knock out something unique.

Thanks again.

@DrH

Nice. I think Luke's OG lightsaber used an old camera flash stem.

@darth_hideout Thanks.

Yes, lots of movie props make use of all kinds of "real" items like this. You want a handle? why spend time creating one from scratch when you can use an already existing handle from something else and a layer of paint.

It's always fun to see where they come from.
