@filiplachert it should be easy, but the companies that run LLM services would never be truthful about their energy usage reporting.

In order to ensure they do, you would have to regulate them and enforce honest reporting with third-party auditing and heavy fines for misreporting energy usage. In order to regulate AI companies you have to convince people with political power that their fears of AI technology becoming a new arms race have been stoked by snake-oil salesmen and that regulating these companies will not inhibit progress or make their countries fall behind in the arms race.
