I've started shaving with a safety razor again after a long hiatus, and it's going relatively well.

But I'm still using an electric beard trimmer to shape my mustache. Can anyone recommend barber scissors, or another method for trimming my beard without electricity? I'd prefer a buy it for life option that could theoretically be an heirloom for my child, if I sharpen it etc.

@skyfaller I started using a safety razor about ten years ago and have never once looked back. I laugh every time I encounter an ad for “cheap” razors because I buy a 100-pack of blades about once every two years for $10. It's kinda crazy.

As for trimmers, I've never looked into anything other than electric, knowing I would likely not have the patience (or serotonin) for it. Still, I’d be curious to see what you come up with.

@CaptainFlab At my parents' house I had ~5 electric razors in various states of disrepair last time I visited. Only one of them was still capable of charging and turning on. My current electric razor I dropped and the flip-out trimmer no longer stays closed. I cringe at the e-waste if I keep buying these fragile things.

My standalone electric beard trimmer has been more robust somehow, although the power button has to be taped on, but I don't really want to replace it when it breaks.

@skyfaller I have a small pair of scissors and comb that I got as a kit ages ago that I use for beard/mustache trimming. They work well enough that I've never bothered to get an electric trimmer (and I've been bearded continuously for 30+ years), but it's a bit of a hassle and not always the most even. Mostly, I just get the beard trimmed at the barber and only use the scissors when I've let it go too long and am desperate to get my mustache off my upper lip.
@skyfaller yaaay, straight razors for the win!

@Otimsis This safety razor is not a straight razor, although I am also interested in getting a straight razor and learning to use it:

@skyfaller I just use any scissors, they don't need to be special
