I'm also doing some little experiments for potential future #basing on off-brand 25mm bases I had lying around (I won't build an army, but various different kinds of small teams).
First an organic look with the "mix superglue in PVA" method (middle: liquid superglue, right: gel superglue).
The left one will become another try with crackling.
1. Base colors: Petroleum Gray SC57 and Red Ecstasy SFX07
2. Light drybrush (2x) with That Brown SC61 for the Creep and thin coat with PVA glue on the other
Lesson learned: Non-water-soluble wood glue would probably work better for the structure (small pieces had come loose in the thick version).
I tried to mix up Agrellan Earth with a paint (SC00 Flat Black), about 3:1 I think and some water (because the Agrellan is really dried out...) and put on a really thick coat.
No idea if that works - we will see tomorrow when it's dried.
The answer is a definite “YES.🙌
Now where's my UV light?🤔
In the real application, I'll probably add use oranges and yellows to make the lava look more realistic.🌋
Also TIL there's something called "Mordant Earth" (Citadel's own variant of a black crackle paint). And I'm also curious about general crackle mediums.
I have given the bases a wash with SC82 "Intense Violet".
While that is drying, it's time for more layers on my mummies' bones (SC25 Birch) and rags (SC09 Whites Sands).
I love my #Scalecolor paints, but getting decent coverage with light colors is a darned pita (which also makes them great for blending and glazing, of course...).

Another round of drybrushing and I'm almost satisfied.
I especially like the lava rocks while I think the creep needs a glossy/ "wet" finish". I'll do that with a gloss varnish.
The test bases are done and a little more of the base colors on the #mummifiedUndead.
I'll call it a day with that.
