Watching footage from Portland — protestors in frog suits, unicorns, dancing, humor in the face of absurd claims.

It reminds me that resistance doesn’t always roil and riot — sometimes it laughs, shines a light, and refuses to be afraid.

We need more of that.

The more it looks like Disney World, the more the ICE thugs look like total fools at the wrong party.

As soon as we get really cheap robots, they could be dressed in inflatable costumes and controlled by drone operators. Then nobody would need to take bathroom breaks or get sore feet. Although I really really hope this ICE insanity goes away soon and doesn't return.

@bkahn ME TOO! but until then...we must continue to make them look like the idiots they truly are.

@Tessa_Halloran laughter is the ultimate way to strike at the heart of fascism.

Naturally, disposing of some fascists doesn't hurt, either. Us. Might hurt them.

Anyhoos. Always mock fascists.

@faraiwe Always...anywhere, anyway!
@Tessa_Halloran i mis-read that as "dancing and humor in the face of absurd clams."
@Tessa_Halloran Last week my friend's mom got abducted by ice. They shaved her head and sent her to an El Salvador prison
@SarahSanger That sucks...shakes head at the absurdity of it all.
@Tessa_Halloran Is the purpose of the costumes to make the idea that they are "violent protestors" sound ridiculous?

@Tessa_Halloran

Aye, absolutely undeniably usefully true.

From your lips...

@Tessa_Halloran @lisamelton I've got my inflatable T. rex costume ready for when they come here

@continuity0 @Tessa_Halloran @[email protected] I have absolutely no doubt that Trump will sign an executive order banning costumes"because they could hide explosives".

I also have no doubt that the Oregon constitution protects physical displays of free speech. There was a naked bike ride at the protest a while ago, but obviously fewer pictures.

@Tessa_Halloran "monsters attack portland!"

(Sorry, that was me being silly, i love this

@Tessa_Halloran It makes me think of the generally peaceful resistance of the Czech and Slovak people after the Prague Spring in 1968 was brought to an abrupt end by the Russian army.

I remember seeing pictures of flowers placed in Russian tank gun barrels. Reading about street signs and signs with the names of villages and towns being removed to confuse the invading forces.

You can fight for your human rights without showing violence to your oppressors.

Responses like this make sense in the face of an absurd situation.

One of the most effed up things about everything that's happening right now... ... is that I finally, *FINALLY* get both the Dada and the Surrealist art movements. You can't learn about things in a vacuum - you need the context for why they came to be. Fascism, unfortunately, was the context I needed. Tell me the Portland Frog isn't Dada.

@Tessa_Halloran

It would be great if people across the nation showed up in inflatable costumes for the October 18 No Kings protests.

@Tessa_Halloran
The group of elderly ukulele players singing protest music at ICE was a highlight for me. Between costumed protesters and the rest, Portland knows how to protest an absurd regime.

@Tessa_Halloran

Two questions:

1.) how do you breathe in one
2.) where does one get these things??

@CorvidCrone ebay...there is a fan inside and a ventilation port

@Tessa_Halloran

The one I saw today of a girl dancing in a unicorn costume while someone blew soap bubbles was just the best thing ever.
