Any #YEG folks know why Google Maps is currently showing a replacement bus route with extra detours instead of the LRT route for the Capital line? And referencing "South Camputs" station??? Have they started using f*#$ing AI for Google Maps? Or has someone at the city messed up the data sources?

@AmeliasBrain

Maybe someone at Google was overcorrecting what they *thought* was an error re #NAIT's #Souch campus, which is helpfully located #south of the main campus, and it bled over into kaputting another campus?

😳🤔😛

@likelyjanlukas @AmeliasBrain I think it's a lot more likely ets, or their contractors, screwed up the source data than that anyone at Google Maps has given even a moments thought to what that data represents.

@megmac @likelyjanlukas Broken data file was one of my thoughts, but other apps aren't showing the same result. That said, I'm pretty sure no human at Google is sabotaging the ETS source data on a case-by-case basis, either.

The LRT route definitely looks like what you'd get if you generated driving directions between the station addresses, complete with U-turns to end up on the opposite side of the road. Now, in some cities transit routes only have stop locations, and they've previously been drawn with straight line connectors, which sometimes looks weird, especially for bus routes. So I can maybe imagine someone trying to fix that issue but ending up kudgeling the maps for other transit routes like this. But the Valley line doesn't have the same issue, nor ones in other cities that I quickly checked.

And that still doesn't explain the typo in the South Campus station name.

So my best guess is some vibe-coded algorithm being told to find & fix problems & somehow this is what we got.
