Community Reminder:

Many companies are going to be shedding windows 10 laptops and desktops without modern TPM Modules.

Its a good time to go out and save some of these systems from becoming e-waste. I just picked up an old thinkpad for $50, it's a win-win.

@Rasp
PCs for the people is a good organization too. My library used to partner with them.
@Tourma while they didn't have any free laptops when I went in today I know they sometimes have some available for low income people.

@Rasp
nods

For us it was more as a donation point. But yeah. Good group.

I looked there and goodwill briefly for another laptop before deciding that what I'm willing to spend isn't enough to properly test Bazzite. Though I did see an identical computer to my good one for $220 on goodwill. Mine's in better condition, but still.

@Rasp @izzy I would love to. But like... I have no idea where to start looking. Do you have resources?
@smolbrain @izzy I'd search your local area for pc recycling centers they often refurbish machines and resell them. That's what I did. I'd advise visiting the location personally if possible there are often better deals to be found on site than online.
@Rasp @izzy neat. Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing the right terminology to search. Thanks!
@smolbrain @Rasp Also worth checking ebay. A lot of those recyclers sell on ebay, and you'll see other sellers too. Prices can end up warped though.

@izzy @smolbrain

yeah ebay was too rich for my blood and the recyclers online prices were similar.. I went in person.

@Rasp @smolbrain @izzy i had to go on Ebay

wallapop and cashconverter rise the prices a lot.

The cheapest I could get was at 155 for a twinkpad for some years on Ebay.

Many of the cheap stores are usually in mainlands or the continent.

Yes, companies here will prefer throwing PCs or sending it to other kind of recycling facility before reselling them or reusing them because the cost of a technician for classfying and such is not worth it for them

@Rasp Hmm... I wonder if this might provide for affordable SFF computers finally.
@Rasp thinkpads are eternal, some of 'em even have MIL-STD-810 H resistance certification :)
@Rasp what model is it?
@tofu ... a Thinkpad 20h2soxGoo ?
@Rasp that doesn't sound like a model name…
@tofu that's what it says in the os and the sticker on the bottom. I dunno what else to tell you.
@tofu ah I ran the serial through the lenovo website apparently its an E470
@Rasp so a dual core intel, I guess if you're patient it might be ok-ish for very light use

@tofu I basically just need it to function as a web browser. It's my go out and do some writing pc. I did put linux on it... I mean it came with linux but I switched to my preferred distro

and its been very snappy from what little testing I've done.

Like the browser on my AM5 system is just as snappy.

@Rasp huh, I guess people have different levels of sensitivity to this, my T480 felt so dog slow I just straight up upgraded to a modern thinkpad, because it was unpleasant in web browser use, and I wouldn't want to make myself compile stuff on it
