A bird who was shockingly decent at being photographed while I tested out my new (old) Nikon lens. To be fair, I was on the ground, and they were not.

Shot on a FujiFilm X-S10 w/ a Nikon Nikkor 200mm 1:4 (the lens is probably from the 70s or 80s, so I'm using an adapter)

not all birds were so happy to be photographed, of course. To be fair, I saw the crow, and then basically whipped my camera around without having time to adjust much of anything, so I'm grateful I got a shot at all.

And uh... this one is not a bird.

I actually took this with a telephoto lens... after nearly running head first into said spider because this was BASICALLY IN FRONT OF MY FRONT DOOR

Anyway, I struggled to get the focus with the telephoto lens when I came back out; had to step back into the house to get it. But hey!

Focal length aside, it's cool to shoot with a lens from a different manufacturer because... I don't know; they just feel different. It could just be all in my head; could be subtle differences due to age, coatings/wear, the different adapters... etc.

Then again, I do feel this has slightly sharper focus than the Canon 50mm I have (which, I quite enjoy the soft focus on that, but it's also nice to shoot with a new lens and notice a more distinct sharpness at proper focus).
I do have a lens with autofocus and I really do keep meaning to make use of it. But there's something so very enjoyable about shooting full manual... even if there's a lot of fucking blurry pics.

@aud _Araneus diadematus_ (that dotted white cross is distinctive) and that particular type of web is called an orb web!

Anecdotally I have noticed they tend to build webs across longer spaces, further from the nearest supports, than related spiders like _Zygiella_ and _Larinioides_.

@nev oh HELL yes. I was lowkey hoping someone would identify the spider! Fuck yeah, thank you!!

And yeah, it actually had built the web in
quite a... longer space than it had to. At a weird angle jutting away from the house and trees and such.
@nev also, the word "cross" was totally escaping my brain. Hence why my alt text description of the spider was a little weird. Anyway, thank you!
