National Guard members from Texas are at an Army Reserve center in Illinois. It's the most visible sign yet of the Trump administration’s plan to deploy troops to the Chicago area despite a lawsuit and vigorous opposition from Democratic elected leaders. The Associated Press saw military personnel in uniforms with the Texas National Guard patch at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elwood in the far southwestern suburbs of Chicago. On Monday, Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott posted a picture on social media showing National Guard members from his state boarding a plane, but he didn’t specify where they were going.

Trump’s bid to deploy the #military on #US soil over local opposition has triggered a conflict with #BlueState governors. In #Oregon, a judge over the weekend blocked the Guard’s deployment to #Portland.

The #Trump admin has portrayed the cities as war-ravaged & lawless amid its crackdown on illegal #immigration. Officials in #Illinois & Oregon, however, say military intervention isn’t needed & that federal involvement is inflaming the situation.

#Trump has said he would be willing to invoke the #InsurrectionAct to get around #CourtOrders. It allows the president to dispatch active duty #military in states that are unable to put down an insurrection or are defying federal #law.

“If I had to enact it — I’d do that,” Trump said Monday. “If people were being killed, & courts were holding us up, or governors or mayors were holding us up.”

@Nonilex hmmm. the only people being killed are protestors, bystanders and detainees by the ICE agents. I'm all for having the National Guard shoot and/or detain ICE agents. Will he do that?
