PepperstacheThis feels like a mastodon thing - there is a UK hospital trust trying to get rid of 132 used solar panels from demolished buildings. Schuco MPE 190 MS 06, tested in 2023 at 89% original capacity. No mountings or inverters, believe would be free for collection only from the Midlands. If anyone has a project or community group that would benefit message me for contact #solar #solarpanels @bloor @revk ?
Wow this got busy while I was driving tonight! Just to clarify, the panels are owned by University Hospitals of North Midlands - I have no personal connection to the trust but the offer came through a network I’m in. Have sent the contact details to those I’ve seen making a request-let me know if I’ve missed you

Benjohn@Philsturgeon great project. Will the panels also be used for movement too? I understand for large fast boats that’s not practical, but for slower occasional movement it might be great?
@benjohn yeah replacing the diesel engine with an electric 10kW motor is phase 4 and probably a year away. Right now I’ve just dropped £5k on a new 48v batteries/inverter/stuff to ditch gas. Will help with cooking and heating.
@Philsturgeon nice! … does heat pump work at all on a boat (maybe from the water?!), or is it regular electrical heating?
@benjohn for now heating is mostly solar dump topping up a water tank that’s also heated by the engine. It’s called a calorifier and it’s dual input. Waste heat + immersion. That waste heat could absolutely be switched for water source heat pump in the future but that’s phase 5. 😅 I’ll blog each phase on https://philsturgeon.com as I go.
