well actually floor & skirting are staying(as retrofit hardwood floor is built upto the box skirting both making it tricky to access to run services through and remove 🤣)
Walls are ALL being pealed carefully back to the original chipboard lining. But door frames are staying for prepping and re-painting as may the bedroom doors unless we do go for fully glazed interior doors to let as much natural light through as possible.

And even if you know a smidge about what a job entails, you do wonder where some estimates come from: to move our water cylinder from a kitchen cupboard to the loft - the strong bit where the soon-to-be-superfluous water tank was currently living - we had quotes ranging from £3750 to £11000.
The cheapest came from a guy whose work was highly recommended. The end result was 50% plumbing, 50% copper sculpture. Beautiful. On time, on budget.
@blingoali there is definitely no correlation between cost and quality. Finding good willing people is the key.
Thankfully being closer to York there is a bigger pool of people to chose from.
We’ve found a good plumbing company. There is a local firm doing the outside work for us and our young sparky who did the cabins for us is getting involved. So far it’s just the roof and solar we need to sort (and neighbour has just done his and had contacts who know the problems he encountered)

Thank dog it was a kit house and we have plans of how it was likely built.
I’d keep the metal ceilings but they deform permanently as soon as you touch them. even cleaning is almost impossible without permanent damage. The kitchen ones are covered in oily residue.
At lease the beautiful original wood T&G ceilings are still in place and more or less undamaged so far

@Basmitharts I just wish all the weird was done right Not just bodged diy on top of bodged diy on top of bodged diy. Don’t get my wrong I’m enjoying undoing it but they seem to have removed all the original internal finishes before creating their DIY onion we’re now peeling. And everything they have done is shoddy. @blingoali yep, wanna get at least the two bedrooms stripped back and reinstated to as close to original spec as we can guess at before we move in.
I haven’t measured ours but ceiling height definitely feels cosy even in the living areas, but especially the huge living dining area. I can almost wax the ceiling without a step. Doors are weirdly high and wide too. There would definitely be no jumping into the pool 🤣

@vulgalour the rooms were mostly tongue and groove or chipboard lined originally and I guess they got sick of that look and wanted something wipe clean. Bear in mind the bottom layer in the master bedroom was all mirror tiles!
The only reasonable explanation is they were using the house for very messy 1970s style porn.
Even the flipping corridor is tiled. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s under the wood panelling on the left-hand side too 🤷♂️
Thankfully, it’s all coming off pretty easily.
I dread to think what it'd look like under a UV black light! Might want one of those crime scene specialist cleaners to have a good scrub over the place 😬
