I ate breakfast today.
Time for lunch!

Alright, I finished the rest of yesterday's Thai Basil dish. It was delicious and I am satisfied.

Time for desert.

For dinner last night, we had fake BBQ (slow cooker) pulled pork, the rest of Monday's mashed potatoes, some (from frozen) fried okra, and some pickled daikon and onions.

It was great. I had seconds. That finished off the mashed potatoes. There wa no leftover okra. The pulled pork leftovers got frozen and will probably get consumed on Saturday.

Tonight, I think we're going to do pasta, or perhaps some kind of protein with instant noodles.

It depends on how my wife is feeling when she gets off work.

For lunch today I had some rice with some sardines in hatch chili sauce. The hatch chili sauce was slightly sweet, and this sardine dish was more filling than some of the others I've had (and that's not surprising at a total of 550 KCal, as opposed to the 350 of the last dish.)

We had chipotle. It was $45. (Too much!)

The last week saw us eating out more than I'd like because of Life. I had shows and events and my wife had work and family and neither of us did any meal prep ahead of time.

Yesterday, we had to top off our groceries with some more fish and a few pounds of rice, a spice we missed the first time, and some ice cream.

Total was like $30 or so, IIRC.

But that's enough rice and fish for a few meals.

Last night we had rice with lemon pepper salmon. It was about $7 per plate (because we went with frozen salmon, rather than fresh. The frozen is slightly more expensive, but means we have to go shopping less often.)

Today, for lunch, I'm having some instant Tteokbokki for lunch, along with some teriyaki sardines. ($5 total)

This is my first time doing instant rice cakes, so I don't know if they'll be any good!

I think I added too much water to the sauce. It called for 3 tablespoons, and I eyeballed it.

It looks like Tteokbokki, but it's too hot to try yet. #breakingBread

Tastes like tteokbokki. Pretty spicy. I'm surprised it makes a decent instant product.

this is OTOKI brand, flavor K-original.

I did make the sauce a bit too watery, but it's not bad!

Stopped by the grocery store on the way home and picked up:

- some produce (cucumber, zucchini, onion, tomato, green beans, mushrooms)
- soy sauce
- noodles
- Tahini and chickpeas (for hummus!)
- some chips and some soda.

It was $60! That's a lot.

The tahini was the most expensive item, followed by the chips and soda. I think it was $10 in Tahini. We got pringles, tortilla chips, and a 4 pack of Boylans soda. Each of those things was $5, IIRC?

So $25 of our grocery run was tahini, chips, and soda, and the rest ($35) was soy sauce, noodles, and produce.

We're having Pad See Ew for dinner.

My wife and I worked all weekend, so we ended up getting Pizza one night and going out for dinner with a friend the other night.

We also did a grocery trip and topped off our fresh produce with about $75 worth of stuff. That'll get us through Thursday or so.

For lunch today I'm having sardines and crackers.

@ajroach42 It's hard for me to mentally track what you've accumulated over a week - a monthly overview of costs might be interesting just to see how it adds up for the style of cooking / eating you're doing?
@aschmitz That's a good idea!
@aschmitz I've been considering doing a per meal breakdown, but a per day/per week breakdown might make more sense.
@ajroach42 Either one or both, yeah. Per-serving prices are good to have, but often it's not feasible to buy stuff for one or two servings at a time (or the pricing is awful if you do), so a more holistic amount for a medium term is helpful too.
