4/5 West Ham Engine House

Two snaps today. The first shows the beam of one of the engines - pushed and pulled by the cylinders under the LH end. The second is under the RH end showing the link from the beam to the flywheel that ran the bucket pumps for West Ham's sewage.

Whether a cathedral or a sewage pump, optics rule. You've certainly got the cathedral side down tight, and I like industrial! I was once hired to create a comprehensive photo archive of the biggest local iron mine [about 3,000 feet straight down] that was left intact since the day it was shutdown [1960s]. Alas, though I was well-paid, I had to turn over several hundreds of Ektachromes to the client, Vatenfall AB, Sweden, as part of the deal. They were planning to convert the mine into a pumped storage facility, and I was vying for the job of project photographer - that would have included going all the way down! Never happened. -Phil
